Rolls Royce Motor Cars is planning to launch Ghost in India by the end of this year. A small luxury sedan, the Ghost is crafted by the same hands that manufactured the fifth-generation of Rolls-Royce Phantom - it is engineered by Helmut Riedl and designed by Ian Cameron. The interiors of the Ghost have the same wood and leather workshops as its sibling, Phantom.
The Ghost is a super luxury sedan that is available in a 6.6-liter, turbocharged V12 engine. The Ghost was announced at the Shanghai Auto Show. It will be launched globally at the the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and the Ghost will come to India by November or December.
In the global market, the Ghost will be priced between Rs 1.2 and Rs 1.3 crore, but the price will go further high in the Indian market as a reason of the tax and import duty. The Rolls Royce is a BMW-owned company. The company is planning to widen its business in India and as a result of this, the company is planning to launch a whole new range of models in India, which will be available to the Indian customers, soon after they are been launched in the global market.
Luxury car makers are pouring out more and more luxury cars in India. The Indian car market for luxury cars are increasing day by day. Even with the increase in fuel prices and inflation the car manufacturers are taking valiant steps by introducing their luxury cars in India.
For so many years the Indian luxury car market was conquered by Mercedes-Benz. However currently there are so many luxury auto makers like Volvo, BMW, Porsche, Audi, Rolls Royce, etc. are eying the share of the luxury segment.
BMW, Porsche, Mercedes and Audi are some of the auto makers that are rolling out luxury cars for the Indian market. The US auto makers are planning to launch fuel-efficient small cars and are reworking on it and they are also reducing operations for their top models.
There are series of launches Audi is launching its A4, BMW is launching the 5 series, Porsche is launching 911 Carrera (Generation 2), and Mercedes the new E class. Mercedes is also looking ahead to launch the spiffed up M class and SLK by the third quarter of the financial year. They are proclaimed to be priced between Rs 37 lakh for an E class and Rs 1.5 crore for the Porsche Carrera.
The main reason for the increased volumes in luxury cars are the hostile dealer network. These auto makers were basically targeting only on the metros. However in 2006, 3,300 luxury cars were sold in India, which mounted to 4,500 in 2007 and is projected to extend 10,000 during the current year.
The name ‘Rolls Royce’ itself sounds so royal. Legendary luxury carmaker Rolls Royce’s latest creation, the Phantom Drop head Coupe in India is great. This super-luxury on wheels is designed on the lines of 100EX prototype got such rave reviews that Rolls Royce decided to put it into production. A spectacular 3-ton, 12-cylinder, four-seat mega-convertible gives more youthful appeal. The car has been designed taking inspiration from classic J-class racing yachts of the 1930s and this is immediately evident from the long bonnet, large rear teak deck and the white yacht type rear curved seats. The car is actually shorter than the regular Phantom which lends to improved handling and a more spirited drive.
So if you simply must put the prestige smack down on friends and neighbors, then this your car. Go ahead and make the difference…
Indian car makers have come long way and the boom was visible especially in last three to four years. The car industry has grown in all prospects but the small car segment steals the show as they are ideal for Indian families.
But lets not underestimate the our Indian buyers either, now with the better income and than much more disposable cash ever before, the demand for luxury cars are also raising. Pouring of foreign car makers for making a partnership, manufacturing plants and other mergers clearly indicates that need for luxury car is increasing.
Indian car industry is loaded with foreign makes in the super luxury class like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Rolls Royce, Bentley, VW, Volvo, Nissan and many more that are still on the way to hit the Indian roads.
It is from time of Raja’s and Maharaja’s reign the passion for cars is on. Earlier there were no traffics or jams so and therefore the size of the car did not matter. Today every car owner wants to customize his car for a different look and so were the kings.
Here is an interesting story about how the Maharajah of Nabha customized his Rolls Royce car into the shape of a swan. This metal bird was enhanced with Gabriel horn which has eight organ pipes and a keyboard, which worked off the exhaust system. It is interesting to know that, there were two levers; one that opened the beak of the swan and the other lever was used to send hot water from the radiator into the swan’s nostril. And this forced the compressed air, making swan-like hissing sound. Now where do you get to see such kind of art? Only in museums we can see this kind of creativity.
This ‘big bird’ was not only a huge success in India but also shined on the roads of England. But as every good thing should come to an end, this car was forced to ban from the streets of Calcutta as it attracted crowd, interrupting the routine traffic.
Rolls Royce, one of the most luxuries cars in the premium segment is in great demand in India. In the year 2007, eleven Rolls Royce cars were sold in India. Out of these eleven, 8 were RR Phantom Standard Wheelbase, two e RR Phantom Extended wheelbases and a RR Phantom Drophead Coupe. And do you know the cost of each Rolls Royce? Hold your breath for the price tag. It costs upwards of RS. 3 crore. Phew! That’s lot of money!
The entire Phantom model with four door models was in great demand. And with the launch of Phantom Drophead Coupe the sales blew up. This reveals that money is no more a big deal. All that matters is the social status.
