The Indian subsidiary of General Motors has put on a
brave face against the news that its parent establishment in the U.S. is on the
verge of going belly up. GM
India officials vouch that their operations will remain unaffected by the
developments in the U.S., saying that the Indian operations do not form part of
the bankruptcy proceedings filed under Chapter 11 of the United States
Bankruptcy Code.
Of course, they’ve a valid point that supports such
unbelievable statements. GM will potentially lose $37 billion worth of debt
through Chapter 11 and their objective is to find room for themselves to become
more competitive. The bankruptcy judge has the power to let GM out of
obligations and contracts it can no longer afford and that will help the brand
to rebuild and also adapt to the changing business environment.
Banking on the positive mood, GM India assures that
sales, customer support, and warranty of Captiva, Spark, Aveo, Aveo U-VA, and
the Optra will remain completely unaffected. They are trying to take customers into their confidence
with the promise that their nationwide dealership networks will be intact and
service centres will work normally without any hiccups.
In fact, as it is wobbling under credit crunch, the U.S. car manufacturer is actually looking upon India as a key market for its revival. That’s the obvious reason for the company’s going ahead with small car projects in India. GM India has clearly indicated that the Chevrolet Cruze and the Chevrolet mini car will be launched on prescribed schedule.
GM considers India primarily as a small car market that can
create a demand for compact cars from other world markets. This gives GM India an upper hand while
tackling the ghost of bankruptcy of its parent company in the U.S. Because raw materials are readily available here
at a cheaper price, the company is very confident of bringing out cars at
attractive and competitive prices to serve other markets as well.
This will generate a greater demand for GM’s Indian-made cars and will open up a great opportunity for its Indian subsidiary. This fact itself is capable of allaying the fears of Indian customers, suppliers, dealers and all other stakeholders about the over-hyped aftermath of the impending bankruptcy.
The competition in the car segment is growing really and just like in any other segment the SUV segment is heating up too. The car manufacturers are either adding a new variant or are upgrading the existing SUV with extra style, features and sometime with a different engine too.
Ford too shares the similar thinking and plans to introduce the face lifted version of Endeavour very soon. The new version of the SUV will be seen with all new chrome grille and redesigned headlights. Looks like Ford is setting is Endeavour all ready and powerful for the Toyota Fortuner which will make its debut in the Indian car market very soon.
Though there are no specific details about the revamped edition of the SUV but it is expected to replace the indirect injection engine with the CRDi engine with an output of 143bhp. The new Endeavour would also get a new 5 speed automatic transmission system against the new 5 speed manual transmission which is currently equipped in the existing Endeavour in India.
The exterior and the interior too will be seen with the subtle changes that will add an extra appeal to the SUV. Endeavour is the perfect off roader that shines on the Indian roads. Hope with all new looks and features Endeavour once again will lead the SUV segment.
Jazz is still awaiting launch and the Japanese car manufacturer is already working on another small car which is will be priced lower. In order to bring down the cost, the company is looking for localizing the component so that the price of the car will fall in the range of Rs 4.5 Lakh. The price and the specification of the car is still undercover but as it is from the house of Honda one can always expect the best.
The new car with the competitive price tag will be a strong competition in the small car segment. This will be the first car from the premium car manufacturer that will be built keeping India as a lead market. For the upcoming car Jazz, its home country will be lead market whereas US was the lead market for the Accord and Civic and Thailand for City.
The company is planning a mass volume for the new car. The car which will manufactured at the Honda’s new Rajasthan facility will hold the initial capacity of 60,000 cars annually which will be later increased to 2.5 Lakh units.
Jazz which is the first offering to the small car segment from the Honda has already created a demand in the market and now with the new car with an attractive price tag, Honda is started to threaten the other primary players like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motors in the small car segment.
The news of Maruti 800 phasing out spread like a wildfire but now the company says that this news is not yet confirmed. Maruti is still in the confusing point about their decision to take away the little wonder that one shined like a prince on the Indian roads.
In the phasing out list even Maruti Omni belonged but now there is a speculation that both the models would be upgraded so that they will be in compliance with the Bharat Stage 4 emission norms by 2010.
On the contrary it is any wise option as both the models have a very good sales record in the market. And phasing them out without any genuine reason would be cruel. In terms of M800, it is an open secret that Nano is going to hit the M800 sales severely. Now was this the reason that company was planning to take awayM800? The possibility is high but it is a competitive market and everyone tries to the position. If Nano will shine on the roads with the attractive price tag, then it is sure Maruti Suzuki too will come up with something that will not pull the consumers but also give a tough completion to Nano.
Now only time can tell us who is the winner as the competition is really high.
