Hyundai’s most popular flagship model Santro will be seen in Taxi version in Mumbai. The car manufacturer handed over the first lot to the Taxi Union at the ceremony held in Mumbai.
Currently this bollywood city has 50,000 black & yellow services running. Initially the only will 30 Santro taxis be seen on the roads according to the decision taken by the Taxi and Auto rickshaw Welfare Sangh. The state government has also decided to discontinue the taxi models which are 25 years old. By 2009 the government plans to replace 7,000 old taxis. Hyundai is planning to sell around 1,250 Santro taxis, out of which 500 will come with AC.
As part of special offer, the car manufacturer is selling the Santro with a special price tag of Rs 2,42,300 for the taxi purpose in Mumbai. This is for the first time the car manufacturer entering the taxi segment.
Santro introduced in 1998 in the Indian car market is a great car from the small car segment. It is one of the most popular cars from the Hyundai’s stable. The black & yellow Santro will be a great taxi to hop in.
Hyundai Santro always remained as one of the popular model from the small car segment and was sold in big numbers. Now Hyundai Motors is planning to roll out a car smaller than Santro.
The car details and the price is not yet revealed but it is expected to hit the Indian roads by 2011. Currently, due to the global recession, car manufacturers are experiencing a dip and this is definitely not the right time for any new launches.
The car brand is presently busy with its export numbers that are enough in numbers to keep them busy for some time. Recently Hyundai reached the landmark of 20 lakh sales and as gesture of goodwill, the company handed the over the 20th lakh car over to the NGO -- CRY (Child Rights and You). The popular bollywood actor and the Hyundai’s brand ambassador Shah Rukh Khan did the honor of handing the keys to Irwin Fernandes, Director of West and Volunteer Action, CRY.
The fuel hike has given a good pinch to every one .And to fight the problem, many car manufacturers are coming out with other options like LPG version and CNG versions cars.
In a bid to grab larger share in the auto market, car manufacturer Fiat India plans to launch the CNG variant of its model Palio in India by early next year. Mercedes will also be rolling out the CNG version.
Hyundai Motors, leading Korean auto maker introduced the CNG version of its sedan Accent and Hyundai Santro in India. The car will be enhanced with dual fuel intake- petrol and CNG.
Hope more car makers follow the trend and make the drive easier and affordable.
The cute looking car Hyundai i10 bagged The Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) 2008. The car that was launched in November last year in India won many heart shining on the Indian roads. The year 2008 saw a boost in its sale but also affected sales of Santro and Getz, it was a hit.
Santro sales were just above 4,700 units which used rival WagonR in sales before i10 came. Maruti Suzuki WagonR sales in the month were above 12,000 units mark. The factors that were considered to rank these cars were fuel efficiency, ride, handling, safety, comfort, driver satisfaction and price.
