Toyota and Honda Motors, two Japanese carmakers, have requested the Indian government to transform the standards of classifying small car. And this is because of that the small cars have low tax compared to other car segments. Both the car manufacturers have said that emission norms, passenger safety, and fuel efficiency should be used to classify a car into a small or large car.
Toyota and Honda are both very renowned carmakers of the country and their opinions are expected be viewed seriously by the Indian government. Currently, under the government policy, a car with the length of 4-metre length and has a 1,200 cc petrol or 1,500 cc diesel engine has a lower 8% excise duty compared to 20% duty and there will be an additional Rs 15,000 levied in case of any other cars manufactured in India.
It is also interesting to note that both the companies, Toyota and Honda, are launching small cars in the near future
The new facelifted 2010 Civic is launched by Honda. Available in the 1.8 L i-VTEC engine, new 2010 Honda Civic will be available in three variants namely SMT, VMT, and VAT.

The audio controls for the backseat and auxiliary Jack in the front seat give the machine an urbane feel. In both the VMT and VAT variants, the car has steering mounted cruise control system.

The Jazz from Honda has meet the expectations of the car manufacturer by receiving 2032 bookings in just 20 days
This could be a great news for Honda and a very good testimony as to nothing including the pricing of the car or the financial conditions could adversely affect the sales or popularity of a car. And that the Indian car customers would always go with good class vehicles.
The Honda Jazz is a hatchback which is comparatively higher priced than the other cars in the segment and it made a reason for many to think whether the car will perform good sales at this time of economic slowdown, but all the thoughts and speculations have proved wrong.
The Jazz that has been introduced in India is not from the first generation but from the second generation. The car has a very spacious and classy interior, very trendy exterior, and in the whole is a well designed car.
Around the world in 130 countries the Honda has sold over 28 lakh units. In India the car is priced between 7.15 lakh and 7.90 lakh.
The next company that is planning to withdraw itself from the F1 legion is none other than Mercedes Benz. This is just a rumour but it could possibly happen. It would most probably follow BMW, which announced officially last week that it is planning to quit F1 and will not be in Formula One after this season.
It was Honda that took the decision to back out from the Formula legion before BMW. The economic slowdown that is affecting all the sectors can be a reason why companies, one after the other ditching the Formula One. And the F1 could be seen as a big liability for these companies and would be thinking of spending the money on something more profitable. The many disputes in the F1 could also be a reason for the sudden withdrawal.
The decision of Mercedes Benz, if it is planning to back out will be a shock to the Formula One management. The McLaren team will be affected by this decision of Mercedes Benz, as 40 per cent of the team is owned by Mercedes Benz and both Brawn and McLaren gets engine from Mercedes Benz.
Honda Motor Co. announced that it would not participate in the premier racing series last December and in less than a year’s time, F1 is losing yet another team. BMW has announced that it would pull out of Formula One by the end of the current season. For Honda, the reason for them to withdrawn was mainly financial as it faced a fall in sales and rise in yen but for BMW it is certain other factors that forced them to take such a decision.
The management of Formula One had never expected that the BMW team would back out and the decision of the team is an unexpected one. BMW may lay a path for other teams, such as Renault or Toyota, to follow. BMW was in an unfavourable situation where the team was behind Toyota and Ferrari. It also lost the support of its sponsor, Credit Suisse, which was still another reason for the company to step back.
Understanding the fact that this “Ultimate Driving Machine” is not going to gain anything much from the F1, the company has taken this decision, which it considers as the most appropriate.
The eco friendly decisions from the major car makers should be appreciated as they help to reduce the pollution. Honda has now proclaimed the launch of its two new gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles. These new hybrid cars will be launched by the end of next year. Honda is now getting ready to increase its sales and introduce more number of hybrid cars.
Honda is planning to launch CR-Z, a hybrid sports car and the compact car of Honda, Fit, will be launched in a new hybrid version. Both these cars will be launched in Japan by the end of 2010. Even though CR-Z will be launched in the U.S. and Europe the hybrid version of Fit will not be launched throughout the world.
Honda, a Japanese carmaker, is positioned after Toyota in the sales of the hybrid cars segment in India. Honda is trying to win the position of Toyota, which is reflected in the company’s plan to launch more hybrid cars. The company is also taking serious steps to develop large and midsize cars with hybrid systems.
The segment that benefits most from the proposals of the 2009-2010 Budget, among the Indian automakers, is the big cars. A number of car manufacturers are now offering their big cars with a slashed price tag, committed to share with the customers, the benefits of the budget.
Last year’s budget had many beneficial proposals for the Indian small car sector but the big cars didn’t share the benefits. But things are very different this year, the government has reduced excise duty on big cars and has also cut down extra excise, by Rs 5000, duty on big cars that has 2,000cc and above as engine capacity.
The Indian car industry is now witnessing a lot of reduction offers from the car manufacturers. Companies such as Honda, which was not planning for a cut on prices of its models, even after the budget, is now up with new offers, to compete better in the market.
Ford, Hindustan Motors, Honda and Hyundai are among the companies that have already reduced the prices of its big car models. The offers from companies such as Toyota, Tata, BMW, GM India and GM India will be announced soon.
The price reduction of Rs 5,000 – Rs 6,000 does not make huge changes in the price of these big cars that are heavily priced.
