CNG is becoming a new trend in the Indian car market. In the near future more CNG cars are expected to ply on Indian roads. This is mainly because the supply of natural gas is likely to increase by the year-end.
There are speculations that the supply of natural gas will be increased to about 200 mmscmd (million metric standard cubic metres per day) with about 80 mmscmd coming from Reliance Industries’ Krishna Godavari basin.
Maruti is presently developing CNG engines and planning to introduce CNG-driven cars in all the segments the company operates. Following the trend Mahindra, Hyundai, and Nissan are also working to introduce CNG cars. Mahindra is all set to roll out a CNG-driven small commercial vehicle whereas Hyundai and Nissan are exploring possibilities to develop cars running on CNG.
